Espanso is worth keeping if you like managing text expansion in configuration files. An alternative may suit you better if you want to edit replies visually, organize them in folders, or use a browser extension without maintaining match files.
This guide is published by LazyBoard. It does not assume that a visual editor is better for every workflow.
Understand what you would be replacing
Espanso’s match documentation describes YAML trigger-and-replacement pairs, dynamic variables, and cursor hints. These are more than a list of plain phrases: some matches need a deliberate rewrite when moving to another tool.
For a simple reply, the essential information is the trigger and the text it inserts. For a dynamic match, also record what generates each value and where the cursor should finish.
LazyBoard for editing snippets visually
LazyBoard provides title, shortcut, and content fields in a snippet editor. Folders and search help you browse your library, while the picker is useful when you do not remember an abbreviation. Chrome users can use the extension independently of the desktop app.
To try the workflow, create a snippet named “Request received,” give it the shortcut ;received, and use:

When staying with Espanso makes sense
If you rely on your existing match-file organization or dynamic configuration, replacing it may add work without helping your daily writing. Try a visual editor on a few plain replies before moving a working library.
Do not treat shared use of curly braces as format compatibility. Copy the text you want to keep and recreate each dynamic field using the destination tool’s syntax. LazyBoard does not promise direct YAML import.

A safe first migration test
- Back up the original configuration files.
- Pause the original expander so both tools do not handle the same trigger.
